Access to early childhood development (ECD) education in marginalised communities in South Africa is one of the most fundamental challenges facing the country’s development. We believe that providing quality ECD education to the majority of South African children has the potential to fundamentally change the future of South Africa. GROW with Educare Centres Project was formally established in 2014, with the goal of addressing this challenge using the principles of social enterprise and micro-franchising. We have successfully achieved this vision by designing a micro-franchise model, which is a simple, replicable business model. This model provides the school owner with everything she needs to operate a successful school, including resources (curriculum and equipment), intensive training, business mentoring and coaching. It is a holistic model that develops the school owner to manage an excellent education facility, which is also a viable business.
The model offers an all-encompassing solution from school establishment to ongoing business sustainability, through high quality early childhood development, sound operational procedures and financial management. This is achieved by driving quality school outcomes through our ‘School in a Box’ and ‘Business in a Box’ processes:
